Kick off the festivities and drive summer sales with these six strategies.

One of the biggest holidays of the summer is almost here. The 4th of July falls on a Tuesday this year, so many consumers will celebrate the weekend before—or enjoy an extra long weekend—with activities like cookouts, community celebrations, fireworks, and travel.

While a lot of consumer spending will go toward food, people will still be on the lookout for great deals from their favorite brands.

Explore these six campaign strategies brands have used to drive revenue around the holiday, and snag some inspiration for your own 4th of July marketing plans.

4th of July marketing strategies and examples to try

1. Bobo’s: Sharing savings (and snacks) with new subscribers

Baked goods brand Bobo's launched a special promotion to help their customers stock up on snacks for the 4th of July. Because the holiday was likely top-of-mind for shoppers, the brand also updated their SMS sign-up unit to capture new subscribers on-site, incentivizing opt-ins—and purchases—with early access to the sale.

After signing up, new subscribers received a personalized welcome message with the discount code and a reminder to grab their snacks for the holiday

Even if you're not offering a deal for the 4th of July, refreshing your sign-up unit can still help you get shoppers’ attention and convert them into SMS subscribers.

2. Aurate: Inspiring “oohs” and “ahhs” with an on-theme offer

Sustainable fine jewelry brand Aurate promoted their 4th of July flash sale with a clever message that tied their sparkling products to the holiday.

A few days after announcing the sale, Aurate reminded non-purchasers that they only had 24 hours left to use the discount code. Using this segmentation strategy allowed the brand to drive more revenue without doubling up on messages to shoppers who’d already taken advantage of the offer.

3. Bob’s Red Mill: Helping customers wow their party guests with a special recipe

Natural food brand Bob’s Red Mill shared a delicious 4th of July-inspired pie recipe with customers to help them celebrate the occasion and impress their party guests. The brand linked directly to the recipe on their website, where people could easily add some of the necessary ingredients—like flour, cornstarch, and sugar—to their cart and check out.

This approach was a fun brand awareness play that allowed Bob’s Red Mill ‌to organically drive traffic and conversions without offering an official discount or promotional offer

4. Function of Beauty: Incentivizing new product subscriptions with a free gift

Function of Beauty—a personalized hair, body, and skin care brand—used the 4th of July as an opportunity to encourage new production subscriptions. They tapped into the summer travel mindset, combining the benefit of a “subscribe and save” discount with a free set of sample size or travel-sized items.

5. Baked by Melissa: Reminding customers to get their dessert orders in early

Many people spend the 4th of July weekend with friends and family, hosting backyard barbecues, or going to group gatherings that center around fun food and snacks. Baked by Melissa—best known for their handcrafted bite-size cupcakes—reminded customers to order their party-ready 100 packs by the shipping deadline, to get them in time for their weekend celebrations.

By sending the message a few days before July 4, and including a dollar-off discount offer, the brand created a sense of urgency for people to click-through and shop immediately.

6. Crocs: Delighting shoppers with a big sale-bration

Iconic footwear brand Crocs offered customers a huge deal for the 4th of July: up to 50% off for a limited time. The brand used bookending to drive engagement and conversions throughout the sale period, making sure to exclude recent purchasers from getting too many follow-up messages.

Later, Crocs offered shoppers an extra 15% off to incentivize more purchases during the final hours of the sale and maximize overall revenue.
